Quepasa will bundle, sell Latin American channels
September 6, 2006
Quepasa Corp. said Tuesday that it will begin selling subscriptions to 78 Latin American television channels and making them available for viewing on its Web site.
The company, which runs an online community for young Hispanics, said Toronto-based JumpTV will provide round-the-clock broadcast feeds from channels in Mexico and Central and South America. Quepasa will bundle the subscription packages for sale by country of origin and programming category.
Chief Executive Officer Rob Stearns said the programs should increase traffic and the amount of time visitors stay on the Quepasa site.
The offering is part of Stearns' new strategy to add products and services beyond Web-based advertising to Quepasa's business.
The company announced last week that it has begun selling cellphone ring tones and wallpapers on its Web site. Ring-tone categories include Latin, Latin rock, pop and other contemporary channels. More than 5,000 products are available and can be downloaded to Cingular, AT&T and T-Mobile cellphones. Buyers are billed via their phones.
Quepasa said it expects to add more television channels and other major wireless carriers soon.
