The
JLP was founded on July 8th,
1943 won the
first Jamaica elections. The party remained in office until January
1955. The JLP 'Freedom' Bell became their
electoral symbol in 1961 and
in April 1962 became the first party for an independent
Jamaica.
About Bruce Golding:
Bruce Golding - Leader of the
Opposition was born on December 5th, 1947. Golding
education started at an early age at the Watermount Elementary School
and eventually changed Elementary Schools 3 times more before passing
for St. George's College. He then went on to Jamaica College and the
University of the West Indies. In 1972, at the age of 24, Golding
became the youngest to person ever elected to parliament, a record that
still stands.
