About The Beat
The Beat is a
potpourri of educational features and entertainment geared at those on
the lower side of 35. Listener interactivity is high on this segment of
radio with students often
being able to call in and win prizes by answering questions on matters
they would have learnt in school. The segment also features the
station's popular "Radiocation"
broadcasts (an education about radio) and
an exciting array of programming for the young at heart.
Tricia Spence
Dallying between English
and Jamaican like a racing car, Tricia
Spence, a.k.a. "Wild Child",
explains in otherwise serene surroundings at the Ashanti
Restaurant in Hope Gardens, St. Andrew that she grew up
in a bilingual household. Mom, Violet, was Chinese. Dad, Michael Spence
was black. The struggle against being typecast and the fight to be
accepted has defined the life of this young woman, who refuses to give
her age, but says that at she has lived many lifetimes. In her "former"
life, the Wild Child with a
master's degree in international buisness management to her credit
has been a lecturer at the University of the
West Indies. But, soon realising that the "academic
thing" was not for her she moved on to a more satisfying and still
evolving career in media.
